What are EAPs?
Employee Assistance Programs grew out of programs established in the 1940s by organizations like Du Pont, Eastman Kodak, and Caterpillar Tractors. EAPs are now commonplace amongst larger organizations. Under an EAP an organization provides counselling services to its employees over a range of issues (both work-based and otherwise). The services are generally supplied by an outside provider to ensure independence and confidentiality.
